Cologne Israeli oil painting dealer hippie commune
No, not a spam subject line- that's where I was last night. Michael financed his trip to Germany by working for an Israeli company that sends kids door to door selling oil paintings. It's actually quite lucrative, since they buy the paintings in China for €5 and sell them for about €150. They have a sales pitch that they are a student project about bringing art to the people, and the paintings are pretty nice. I have no idea how they manage to sell them without speaking German, though. The kids (all with long hair, dreadlocks, or both) live together in a house out in the suburbs. It was cool- they all gave me painting sales presentations, and everyone makes up different bullshit stories about the same paintings. Now we're off to Munich.
