Shortchanged

Charles gave me this New Yorker article analyzing the reaction to the "Taller People Are Smarter" study. He says that since short people all over the country are pissed off, and the study has been misinterpreted by many, I should print a retraction. No dice! The negative reactions are not to the 51-page study itself, but to the 363 word Reuters article which necessarily simplified the findings. The link the researchers were talking about-which I mentioned in the original post- was good infant nutrition causing full development of both body and mind. By good nutrition, they're talking about basics like having enough to eat, not having fetal alcohol syndrome, and not suffering from any major diseases. If you reach your full genetically programmed height- which may be short, and which may be shorter than others in your family- you will probably also reach your full genetically programmed intelligence. Or hey, maybe you didn't reach your full height and intelligence but 90% of yours is taller/smarter than someone else's 100%.

Also, everyone who is so scandalized needs a refresher course in Correlation Does Not Imply Causation 101.
