baby birds

In May, I was overcome by some sort of intense evolutionary urge to garden. I bought a Topsy-Turvy Tomato Planter (that's right, a Topsy-Turvy Tomato Planter. What?) online.


The tomato plant looks exactly the same as the day I put it in, but I did manage to grow... birds!


I discovered the nest with five eggs when I watered the plant one day and a bird flew out, almost hitting me in the eye. Last I saw the babies, they were just sitting in the nest waiting around for their mother to feed them, looking not at all flightworthy. But in just a few days, they were all grown up and gone. Here's the only picture I managed to get of the mother:
